## 📖 Project Overview
In the modern data landscape, the efficiency of Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) pipelines is critical for enterprise decision-making. This project addresses the technical challenges of processing increasing data volumes for a global electronics retailer.

The primary objective was to analyze performance bottlenecks in legacy pipelines and implement scalable optimization strategies to handle future Big Data workloads.

## ⚠️ Problem Statement
The client, a global electronics retailer, faced significant challenges with their existing data infrastructure:
* **High Latency:** Legacy pipelines suffered from long execution times and inconsistent load performance.
* **Blocking Transformations:** The core technical bottleneck was identified as "Blocking Transformations" within SSIS (specifically Sort and Aggregate components), which consumed excessive memory and stalled data flow.
* **Scalability Issues:** The system was ill-equipped to handle growing data volumes efficiently.

## ⚙️ Methodology & Architecture

The project was executed in distinct phases to ensure a data-driven optimization process:

### Phase 1: Performance Baseline 📉
* Established a standard SSIS control flow to capture metrics (row counts, execution time, memory).
* Identified that the **Sort Transformation** was the primary cause of high latency.

### Phase 2: SSIS Optimization (Pushdown Strategy) 🚀
* **Pushdown Optimization:** Offloaded heavy sorting and aggregation logic from the SSIS in-memory engine to the SQL Server Database Engine.
* **Blocking Removal:** Replaced SSIS Sort components with T-SQL `ORDER BY` clauses in the source query.
* **Parallelism:** Configured independent data flows to execute in parallel.
* **Buffer Management:** Tuned default buffer sizes for better throughput.

### Phase 3: SQL Server Tuning 🗄️
* **Indexing:** Created Non-Clustered Indexes on Staging tables to accelerate retrieval.
* **Query Optimization:** Removed cursor-based logic from Execute SQL Tasks.

The optimization strategies yielded drastic improvements in execution time.

## 📈 Scalability Test (Big Data Readiness)

To ensure the solution is future-proof, a scalability test was conducted using **Apache Spark (PySpark)**.

* **Simulation Load:** 1,000,000 Rows.
* **Processing Time:** ~7.11 Seconds.
* **Verdict:** The system is robust enough to handle massive datasets exceeding standard memory limits.
