# ⚕ Portable Agents Hub 🦞

Fully self-contained, isolated AI agent workspaces ready to run directly from a USB drive. 
 No global dependencies. Zero host system footprint. Works out-of-the-box on Windows, macOS, and Linux.

This repository houses two fully portable, sandboxed AI developer agents that can be copied onto a USB flash drive or external SSD. Carry your settings, memories, configurations, and workspaces between any computers without installing Python, Node.js, Git, or package managers on the host systems.

# ⚕ 1. Hermes Agent — Portable & Cross-Platform

A fully self-contained, self-improving AI agent built on [Nous Research's Hermes Agent](https://github.com/NousResearch/hermes-agent).

### Quick Start
Run the launcher scripts directly from the root directory:

*   **Windows**: Double-click [hermes.bat](file:///d:/projectsss/Portable%20Agents/hermes.bat) or run `.\hermes.bat` in PowerShell.
*   **macOS & Linux**: Open terminal and run:
    ```bash
    chmod +x hermes.sh
    ./hermes.sh
    ```
    > [!TIP]
    > **macOS Double-Click:** Rename `hermes.sh` to `hermes.command` to open it in Terminal automatically when double-clicked in Finder.

### How It Works & Isolation Design
*   On first run, the setup scripts download Python 3.11 and Node.js 22 into local caches (`Hermes/.cache/runtimes/`), configure a virtual environment with `uv`, and clone/install Hermes.
*   Redirects all user-state (API keys, history, skills, memories) to the local [Hermes/data/](file:///d:/projectsss/Portable%20Agents/Hermes/data/) directory by setting `HERMES_HOME=data/` relative to the agent folder.
*   Prepends downloaded binaries to the execution session `PATH` so host variables remain untouched.

### Configuration & API Setup
Configure your API keys in the environment file at [Hermes/data/.env](file:///d:/projectsss/Portable%20Agents/Hermes/data/.env):

*You can also select option `[2]` in the terminal menu to set up providers interactively.*

# 🦞 2. OpenClaw — USB Portable & Cross-Platform

A desktop-grade local developer environment that runs the OpenClaw developer agent.

### Quick Start
Run the launcher scripts directly from the root directory:

*   **Windows**: Double-click [openclaw.bat](file:///d:/projectsss/Portable%20Agents/openclaw.bat) or run `.\openclaw.bat` in PowerShell.
*   **macOS & Linux**: Open terminal and run:
    ```bash
    chmod +x openclaw.sh
    ./openclaw.sh
    ```

### How It Works & Isolation Design
*   On first launch, it downloads a standalone Node.js binary into `openclaw/runtime/` and installs the OpenClaw package inside the local `openclaw/packages/` directory.
*   Forces OpenClaw home and database variables into the [openclaw/data/](file:///d:/projectsss/Portable%20Agents/openclaw/data/) subfolder.
*   Maintains a terminal menu dashboard where you can:
    1.  Setup or change AI model configurations.
    2.  Start console chat with OpenClaw.
    3.  Launch the Web/HTML Dashboard.
    4.  Interact with pairing commands (e.g. Telegram link).

## 💾 Storage & Performance Guidelines

To maintain excellent response and startup times, follow these hardware guidelines:

> [!IMPORTANT]
> **Use USB 3.0+ or External SSDs:**
> Standard USB 2.0 flash drives have slow random read/write speeds that bottleneck Python and Node.js module loading. Running them from a USB 3.0+ port or external solid-state drive is highly recommended.

## 🔒 Security & Privacy

Since your portable folders contain sensitive information, security is critical:
*   **Sensitive Data**: Configuration folders contain API keys (`.env`), database keys, memories, and session transcripts.
*   **Encryption Recommendation**: If you carry these workspaces on a physical USB drive, encrypt the drive partition using **BitLocker** (Windows), **FileVault** (macOS), or a cross-platform utility like **VeraCrypt** to protect keys in case of loss or theft.

## 🔍 Troubleshooting & FAQ

<summary>First-run setup fails or times out</summary>

* Verify your internet connection (setup downloads around ~600 MB of runtimes).
* Corporate or educational firewalls can block Node.js CDNs or GitHub releases. Try running over a VPN.
* Delete the `Hermes/.cache/` or `openclaw/runtime/` folders and restart the launchers to clean-install.

<details>
<summary>macOS: "cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified"</summary>

* Right-click `hermes.sh` (Hermes) or `openclaw.sh` (OpenClaw), select **Open With** -> **Terminal**.
* Alternatively, clear the macOS quarantine attribute in your terminal:
 ```bash
 xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /path/to/Portable-Agents/
 ```

* This is a false positive triggered by scripts downloading and unpacking executables (Node.js, standalone Python, Git).
* Click **"More info"** on the Windows Defender screen, then click **"Run anyway"**.
* The scripts under `Hermes/scripts/` and `openclaw/bin/` are fully open-source and reviewable.
