## What is ReelSnap?

ReelSnap is a **local web app** that lets you download videos and reels by simply pasting a URL. It runs entirely on your machine — no data is sent to any third-party server.

## Quick Start

### 1. Install yt-dlp (required)

ReelSnap uses [yt-dlp](https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp) as its download engine.

**Linux / macOS:**
```bash
sudo curl -L https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp/releases/latest/download/yt-dlp -o /usr/local/bin/yt-dlp
sudo chmod a+rx /usr/local/bin/yt-dlp
```

**Windows:**
```powershell
winget install yt-dlp
```

**Via pip:**
```bash
pip install yt-dlp
```

Verify:
```bash
yt-dlp --version
```

### 2. Clone and install

```bash
git clone https://github.com/your-username/reelsnap.git
cd reelsnap
npm install
```

### 3. Run

```bash
npm run dev
```

Open **http://localhost:5173** in your browser.

## How to Download a Video

1. Copy a video URL from YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, or X
2. Paste it into ReelSnap (or click the clipboard button)
3. Click **Get Info** — video title, thumbnail, and duration appear
4. Choose a quality from the dropdown
5. Click **Download**
6. Watch the live progress bar, then click **Save file**

## Build for Production

```bash
npm run build   # builds React app into dist/
npm start       # serves everything from Express on port 3001
```

Open **http://localhost:3001**.

## Platform Notes

- **YouTube** — videos and Shorts; single video only (no playlist batch by default)
- **Instagram** — public Reels and posts; private accounts not supported
- **X / Twitter** — public tweets only; Spaces not supported
- **Facebook** — public Reels and video posts supported
- **Private content** — use `yt-dlp --cookies-from-browser chrome <url>` for login-gated videos
