# YouTube Bulk Upload 🎥

**YouTube Bulk Upload** is a tool to facilitate the bulk uploading of video files to YouTube. This can be particularly useful for repopulating a channel after it has been unfairly terminated or when migrating content. The tool offers both a Command Line Interface (CLI) and a Graphical User Interface (GUI) to cater to different user preferences.

## Installation (GUI)

YouTube Bulk Upload provides a Graphical User Interface (GUI) that can be launched from a stand-alone executable.

The GUI allows you to configure all the options available and use the tool through a (somewhat) user-friendly interface.

Download the executable (`.exe` or `.dmg`) for your operating system from the [Releases page](https://github.com/beveradb/youtube-bulk-upload/releases).

### Mac

Double-click the `.dmg` file to run the installer. Install the application by dragging the icon to your Applications folder:

You then need to open a terminal and run `xattr -c /Applications/YouTube\ Bulk\ Upload*` to fix the file permissions.

Then run the application from your Applications folder as normal, it should look something like this:

### Windows

Double-click the `.exe` file to run the application - it doesn't need to be installed first.

Once it loads, it should look something like this:

## Creating a Client Secret for the YouTube Data API

To use this tool, you'll need an OAuth 2.0 Client Secret (JSON file) with scopes enabled for the YouTube Data API.
This authenticates the app with Google's servers and allows you to interact with your own channel via the YouTube API.

YouTube provide [these instructions](https://developers.google.com/youtube/registering_an_application) for how to do this, but those instructions aren't very detailed.

### Step-by-step Instructions

1) Log into the [Google Cloud Console](https://console.cloud.google.com) with your own Google Account. If you've never used GCP before, you'll probably need to click accept or something to enable it.

2) Create a [Google Cloud project](https://console.cloud.google.com/projectcreate), if you don't already have one.

3) Enable the [YouTube Data API](https://console.cloud.google.com/apis/library/youtube.googleapis.com). <img src="images/GCPEnableYouTubeDataAPI.png" alt="Enabling API client credential scopes" height="300">

4) Configure the [OAuth Consent Screen](https://console.cloud.google.com/apis/credentials/consent/edit) with minimal details for "your app" such as name (e.g. "My YouTube Bulk Uploader") and your email address for both the "user support" and "developer contact", then click `Save and Continue`. <img src="images/GCPOAuthConsentScreenBasics.png" alt="GCP OAuth Consent Screen Basic Configuration" height="300">

5) On the Scopes tab, click `Add or Remove Scopes`, select the "Manage your YouTube account" scope (`.../auth/youtube`) and click Update, then `Save and Continue`. <img src="images/GCPOAuthScopesYouTubeData.png" alt="GCP OAuth Consent Screen Scopes" height="300">

6) On the `Test users`, add your own google account email address as a test user, then click `Save and Continue`. On the final confirmation screen, just click `Back to Dashboard`. <img src="images/GCPOAuthConsentScreenTestUsers.png" alt="GCP OAuth Consent Screen Test Users" height="300">

7) From the [API Credentials](https://console.cloud.google.com/apis/credentials) page, click `Create Credentials` then `OAuth client ID`. Set the application type to `Desktop app` and give it a name, e.g. `My YouTube Bulk Uploader` <img src="images/GCPCreateOAuthClientID.png" alt="Creating OAuth client ID" height="300">

YouTube Bulk Upload helps you upload videos to YouTube in bulk from a single folder, with custom metadata derived from the video file names.

Once you have a YouTube API client secret, you can point this tool at a directory of video files and it will upload them to YouTube, generating titles based on the filename, setting descriptions based on a template file, and optionally using a dedicated thumbnail image for each video in the same directory.

I highly recommend testing it out with "Dry Run" enabled first, in which mode it will log exactly what it is doing but won't actually upload anything.

Once you have confidence that your settings are correct and you're ready to execute it in bulk on a large number of files, tick the "Non-interactive" checkbox and it will no longer prompt you with popups asking for confirmation.

The find/replace patterns for video titles, thumbnail filenames, and YouTube descriptions all support regular expressions and empty replacement strings, or they can be left blank if you don't need to use them.

## Installation (CLI)

To install YouTube Bulk Upload, ensure you have Python 3.9 or newer installed on your system. You can then install the tool using pip:

This command installs the latest version of YouTube Bulk Upload along with its dependencies.

## Usage (CLI)
The CLI offers a straightforward way to use YouTube Bulk Upload from your terminal or command prompt.

**Basic Usage**
To start a bulk upload with the default settings, navigate to the directory containing your video files and run:

```

Refer to the CLI help for more options:

## Integrating as a Package

You can use YouTube Bulk Upload as a package in your own Python code. The `YouTubeBulkUpload` class provides extensive customization options for your upload workflow.

### Basic Example

### Constructor Parameters

#### Required Parameters

- `youtube_client_secrets_file: str`
  - Path to your YouTube API OAuth client secrets JSON file
  - Example: `"/path/to/client_secret.json"`

#### Optional Parameters

- `source_directory: str = os.getcwd()`
  - Directory containing videos to upload
  - Default: Current working directory
  - Example: `"/path/to/videos"`

- `dry_run: bool = False`
  - When True, simulates actions without uploading
  - Example: `dry_run=True`

- `interactive_prompt: bool = True`
  - When True, prompts for confirmation before actions
  - Example: `interactive_prompt=False`

##### File Selection

- `input_file_extensions: Iterable[str]`
  - List of video file extensions to process
  - Default: `[".mp4", ".mov", ".avi", ".mkv", ...]`
  - Example: `input_file_extensions=[".mp4", ".mov"]`

- `upload_batch_limit: int = 100`
  - Maximum number of videos to upload in one session
  - Example: `upload_batch_limit=50`

##### YouTube Metadata

- `youtube_category_id: str = "10"`
  - YouTube category ID (10 = Music)
  - Common categories: "10" (Music), "20" (Gaming), "22" (People & Blogs)
  - Example: `youtube_category_id="22"`

- `youtube_keywords: Iterable[str] = ["music"]`
  - Keywords/tags for uploaded videos
  - Example: `youtube_keywords=["gaming", "lets play", "walkthrough"]`

- `privacy_status: str = "private"`
  - Video privacy setting: "private", "unlisted", or "public"
  - Example: `privacy_status="unlisted"`

##### Title Customization

- `youtube_title_prefix: Optional[str] = None`
  - Text to prepend to video titles
  - Example: `youtube_title_prefix="[Gaming Series] "`

- `youtube_title_suffix: Optional[str] = None`
  - Text to append to video titles
  - Example: `youtube_title_suffix=" - Walkthrough"`

- `youtube_title_replacements: Optional[Iterable[Iterable[str]]] = None`
  - List of [pattern, replacement] pairs for title modification
  - Each pair is a list containing [regex_pattern, replacement_text]
  - Common use cases:
    ```python

  - List of [pattern, replacement] pairs for description modification
  - Supports `{{youtube_title}}` placeholder
  - Example:

##### Thumbnail Handling

- `thumbnail_filename_prefix: Optional[str] = None`
  - Text to prepend when searching for thumbnail files
  - Example: `thumbnail_filename_prefix="thumb_"`

- `thumbnail_filename_suffix: Optional[str] = None`
  - Text to append when searching for thumbnail files
  - Example: `thumbnail_filename_suffix="_thumbnail"`

- `thumbnail_filename_replacements: Optional[Iterable[Iterable[str]]] = None`
  - List of [pattern, replacement] pairs for thumbnail filename matching
  - Example:
    ```python
    thumbnail_filename_replacements=[
        [r"\.mp4$", ""],  # Remove video extension
        [r"video_", "thumb_"]  # Match thumbnail naming pattern
    ]
    ```

- `thumbnail_filename_extensions: Iterable[str] = [".png", ".jpg", ".jpeg"]`
  - File extensions to check for thumbnails
  - Example: `thumbnail_filename_extensions=[".png"]`

- `check_for_duplicate_titles: bool = True`
  - When True, checks for existing videos with similar titles
  - Example: `check_for_duplicate_titles=False`

- `logger: Optional[logging.Logger] = None`
  - Custom logger instance
  - Example:
    ```python

    custom_logger = logging.getLogger("my_logger")
    uploader = YouTubeBulkUpload(..., logger=custom_logger)
    ```

- `progress_callback_func: Optional[Callable[[float], None]] = None`
  - Function to handle upload progress updates
  - Example:
