# golfMapsR

Welcome to golfMapsR, an R package for working with and visualizing geospatial golf course data. The data consists of detailed golf course polygons (greens, fairways, tee boxes, bunkers, hazards, etc), sourced from Google Earth and OpenStreetMap.

## Installation:
You can install golfMapsR from my GitHub:
```r
# install.packages("devtools")
devtools::install_github("abodesy14/golfMapsR")
library(golfMapsR)
```

## Functions:
- ```get_mapped_courses()``` : Start here to get a list of mapped courses. Returns a table of all mapped golf courses, each with a unique api_id used as input for retrieving or plotting course-specific data.
- ```get_polygon_data(api_id)``` : Returns polygon-level data for a given golf course. The function outputs an sf object containing detailed geospatial and descriptive information for all course features, including:

- Type of polygon (e.g., tee box, fairway, bunker, hazard, water, green)
 - Square footage and area of each polygon
 - Latitude and longitude (from polygon centroids)
 - Course and hole number
 - Distance to the green from each polygon (straight-line “as the crow flies” calculation between centroids)
- ```plot_course(api_id, hole_num)``` : Plots a golf course or selected holes (e.g., 1:18, c(2, 8, 13, 15)) based on the provided api_id, which uniquely identifies the course. If no argument is entered for hole_num, the entire course will be plotted. Here's an example of how you can plot Amen Corner at Augusta National: 
```plot_course(api_id = "30000000", hole_num = c(11,12,13))```
