# Twilight - A 2D Platformer Inspired by Hollow Knight

Twilight is a 2D platformer built using Unreal Engine 5. Taking visual and gameplay inspiration from titles like Hollow Knight, this project focuses on delivering satisfying movement mechanics, challenging enemy AI, fluid animations, and an immersive atmosphere. From knockback systems to parallax-scrolling tilesets, Twilight is built with attention to detail through solo development.

## Setup Instructions

### Requirements
- Unreal Engine 5
- Git

### Installing Unreal Engine 5

1. Download the [Epic Games Launcher](https://www.unrealengine.com/en-US/download)
2. Install the launcher and create an Epic Games account
3. Open the launcher and install Unreal Engine 5 from the "Unreal Engine" tab

### Cloning and Running the Project

```bash
git clone https://github.com/leechee/Twilight.git
cd Twilight
```

1. Launch Unreal Engine 5
2. Select "Open Project" and navigate to the `Twilight.uproject` file
3. Wait for assets and shaders to compile

- Constrained AI enemy movement to Y axis

- Enabled dash to phase through enemies
- Polished dash animation and sound effects
- Implemented enemy despawn after 5 seconds post-death
- Fixed player input handling after death

- Improved dash mechanics with edge case velocity fixes
- Added snow particle effects
- Updated charge animation logic
- Fixed multiple attack bugs and stun state issues
- Restricted jumping to grounded state only
- Rebuilt navmesh for dynamic runtime generation

**12/22 - 12/24/2023**
- Expanded level design
- Added non-collidable decorative tiles
- Reduced player walk speed for better game feel

### 2024
**1/7/2024**
- Disabled Lumen for performance optimization
- Adjusted shadow tile rendering
- Increased frame rate, adjusted spawn translation

- Fixed floating character bug
- Changed camera to orthographic projection
- Resolved screen tearing and tile shifting issues
