# AVERT!! 🍌

An AI-powered interactive 4-panel comic generation game built with Gemini 2.5 Flash Image (Nano Banana) for the Google DeepMind Nano Banana Hackathon.

## 🎮 Overview

AVERT!! transforms passive AI content consumption into an active, engaging experience where users co-create stories with AI. Players enjoy nano-banana-kun's relatable failures and challenge themselves to change his fate through interventions.

### Key Features

- **🎨 Consistent Character Generation**: Maintains nano-banana-kun's appearance across all panels using Nano Banana's reference image capability
- **✏️ Interactive Story Intervention**: Click on panels 2 or 3 to input commands and change the story's direction
- **😂 Two Difficulty Modes**:
  - **Normal Mode**: Successfully alter outcomes with clever interventions
  - **Hard Mode**: Experience hilariously creative failures no matter what you try
- **📚 Educational Value**: Each story subtly teaches practical life wisdom through humor
- **💾 Download & Share**: Save your creations as images and share on social media

- **AI/ML**: Gemini 2.5 Flash & Gemini 2.5 Flash Image (Nano Banana)

## 🚀 Getting Started

### Prerequisites

- Node.js (v18 or higher)
- Gemini API Key ([Get it here](https://makersuite.google.com/app/apikey))

### Installation

1. Clone the repository:

```bash
   git clone https://github.com/k-fujikawa/banana-adventure.git
   cd banana-adventure
   ```

2. Install dependencies:

```bash
   npm install
   ```

3. Create a `.env.local` file and add your Gemini API key:

```
   GEMINI_API_KEY=your_api_key_here
   ```

4. Run the development server:

```bash
   npm run dev
   ```

5. Open [http://localhost:5173](http://localhost:5173) in your browser

### Build for Production

```bash
npm run build
```

The built files will be in the `dist` directory.

## 🎯 How to Play

1. **Enter a Theme**: Input any situation (e.g., "Going on a date", "Job interview")
2. **Choose Your Tragedy**: Select from 3 AI-generated "pinch" scenarios
3. **Select Difficulty**: Normal (can be saved) or Hard (always fails creatively)
4. **Watch the Story**: See your 4-panel comic unfold
5. **Intervene**: Click panel 2 or 3 to try changing nano-banana-kun's fate
6. **Share**: Download and share your hilarious creation
