# Geek Magic SmallTV Web Interface

**Custom ESP8266 firmware & PHP backend for Geek Magic SmallTV.**

This project transforms the Geek Magic SmallTV (ESP8266 + ST7789) into a "dumb terminal" that renders a sophisticated dashboard generated entirely by a remote PHP server. It displays real-time greenhouse sensor data, local weather, and 24-hour historical statistics.

## 🌟 Features

* **Server-Side Rendering:** All logic (time, weather, stats, layout) is handled by PHP. The ESP8266 simply executes drawing commands.
* **Remote Configuration:** Control screen brightness and refresh intervals via the PHP backend without reflashing firmware.
* **Dynamic Day/Night Modes:**
    * **Day:** High brightness, fast refresh (30s).
    * **Evening:** Medium brightness.
    * **Night:** Low brightness, slow refresh (5m).
* **Smart Alerts:** Background turns red if temperatures drop below freezing (Frost Alert).
* **Historical Stats:** Displays Min/Max temperatures for the last 24 hours.
* **Weather Integration:** Fetches real-time weather and icons from `wttr.in`.
* **Database Rotation:** Automatically cleans sensor data older than 24 hours to prevent storage bloat.

## 🔌 Hardware & Pinout

This project is designed for the **Geek Magic SmallTV** (or any generic ESP8266 board with a 240x240 ST7789 TFT).

*> **Note:** The backlight logic is **Active LOW**. Writing `0` sets max brightness, `1023` turns it off.*

## 🚀 Installation

### 1. Server-Side (PHP)
Host these files on any PHP-enabled web server (Apache/Nginx).

1.  Upload `display_cmd.php`, `update.php`, and create an empty `db.txt`.
2.  **Permissions:** Ensure the web server has write permissions for `db.txt` (e.g., `chmod 666 db.txt`).
3.  **Configuration:** Edit `display_cmd.php` to set your Timezone and Location:
    ```php
    date_default_timezone_set('Europe/London');
    // Change weather URL inside the code: wttr.in/YourCity
    ```

### 2. Firmware (Arduino IDE)
1.  Install the required libraries via Library Manager:
    * `Adafruit GFX Library`
    * `Adafruit ST7789 Library`
2.  Open the `.ino` file.
3.  Update the **WiFi Credentials** and **Server URL**:
    ```cpp
    const char* ssid = "YOUR_WIFI_SSID";
    const char* password = "YOUR_WIFI_PASSWORD";

4.  Select generic **ESP8266 Module** and flash.

## 📡 API & Data Formats

### 1. Uploading Sensor Data (`update.php`)
IoT devices (like another ESP8266 or Raspberry Pi) should send data to this endpoint.

**Endpoint:** `GET /update.php`

**Parameters:**
* `t`: Temperature (float)
* `h`: Humidity (float)
* `d`: Device Name (string, e.g., "greenhouse" or "polytunnel")

**Example Request:**

http://your-server.com/update.php?t=24.5&h=60&d=greenhouse

**Database Behavior:**
The script automatically appends the new data and removes records older than 24 hours to keep `db.txt` lightweight.

### 2. Display Protocol (`display_cmd.php`)
The ESP8266 fetches this page. The output is a plain text list of commands separated by newlines (`\n`). Each line follows the format: `COMMAND|param1|param2|...`

**Supported Commands:**

**Color Format:**
Colors are 16-bit **RGB565** integers.
* Black: `0`
* White: `65535`
* Red: `63488`
* Green: `2016`
* Blue: `31`

## 📂 Project Structure

* `firmware/`: Arduino sketch for the ESP8266.
* `backend/display_cmd.php`: The "Brain". Generates UI commands based on logic.
* `backend/update.php`: Receives sensor data and manages the flat-file database.
* `backend/db.txt`: Stores the last 24 hours of sensor logs (Unix Timestamp CSV).

## 🛠 Troubleshooting

* **Screen is black:** Check if the backlight pin (GPIO 5) logic is correct. This firmware uses Active Low.
* **"Missing parameters" error:** Ensure your sensor is sending `t`, `h`, and `d` parameters correctly.
* **Data not updating:** Check file permissions for `db.txt` on your server.
* **Wrong Time/Weather:** Update the timezone and `wttr.in` URL in `display_cmd.php`.
