# PSP Home Assistant Controller

## Requirements

- PlayStation Portable with Custom Firmware (CFW) or emulator (PPSSPP)
- [PSPDEV SDK](https://github.com/pspdev/pspdev) for building
- Home Assistant instance with a long-lived access token
- WiFi network (for physical PSP)

> ⚠️ **Local Network Only:** This app does not support SSL/TLS (HTTPS). Your Home Assistant instance must be accessible over HTTP on your local network. Do not expose your Home Assistant instance to the internet without proper security measures.

### WiFi Requirements (Physical PSP)

The PSP's WiFi hardware only supports **802.11b**. This is an older standard that some modern routers may not support by default.

**Router Configuration:**
- Enable **802.11b** compatibility mode (often called "mixed mode" or "legacy mode")
- Use 2.4 GHz band (PSP does not support 5 GHz)
- WEP or WPA (not WPA2) for standard PSP firmware

**WPA2 Support (ARK-4 CFW only(?)):**
- WPA2 is **experimentally supported** by ARK-4 Custom Firmware
- Must be manually enabled in ARK-4 settings: `VSH Menu → ARK Settings → Enable WPA2`
- May not work on all networks - if connection fails, try WPA or create a separate 802.11b network

## Building

### Prerequisites

Install the PSP development toolchain:

### Compile

```bash
mkdir build && cd build
psp-cmake ..
make
```

This creates `EBOOT.PBP` in the build directory.

## Installation

### On PSP

1. **Set up WiFi first:** Go to PSP Settings → Network Settings → Infrastructure Mode and create a connection profile for your WiFi network
2. Copy the `EBOOT.PBP` to `ms0:/PSP/GAME/HomeAssistant/`
3. Copy `config.yaml.example` to `ms0:/PSP/GAME/HomeAssistant/config.yaml`
4. Edit `config.yaml` on your PC to add your Home Assistant server and token

### On PPSSPP (Emulator)

1. Create `HomeAssistant` folder: `<PPSSPP>/PSP/GAME/HomeAssistant/`
2. Copy `EBOOT.PBP` to that folder
3. Copy `config.yaml.example` to the same folder as `config.yaml`
4. Edit `config.yaml` with your Home Assistant server and token
5. Configure PPSSPP network settings (Settings → Network → Enable networking)
6. Launch the game from PPSSPP

> **Tip:** Find the PPSSPP folder location via Settings → System → Memory Stick folder.

## Configuration

Edit `config.yaml` with your Home Assistant details:

### Getting a Token

1. Open Home Assistant web UI
2. Go to your Profile (click username bottom-left)
3. Scroll to "Long-Lived Access Tokens"
4. Click "Create Token", give it a name
5. Copy the token (you won't see it again!)

## Troubleshooting

### "WiFi error state 6" (Authentication Failed)
- **WPA2 networks:** Enable WPA2 in ARK-4 settings (see WiFi Requirements above)
- **Wrong password:** Re-enter WiFi password in PSP Network Settings
- **Router compatibility:** Ensure 802.11b is enabled on your router
- **Try WPA instead:** Some routers work better with WPA (not WPA2)
- Verify connection works using PSP's built-in Internet Browser first

### PSP won't connect to WiFi
- PSP only supports **2.4 GHz** networks (not 5 GHz)
- PSP only supports **802.11b** - enable legacy/mixed mode on router
- Some mesh networks and enterprise WiFi (802.1X) are not supported
- Try creating a mobile hotspot from your phone as a test

### "Invalid JSON" or no entities
- Increase `HTTP_BUFFER_SIZE` in `src/config.h` if you have many entities

### Can't connect in PPSSPP
- PPSSPP can't reach localhost directly
- Use a proxy: `socat TCP-LISTEN:8124,fork TCP:localhost:8123`
- Configure the proxy address in your config

### WebSocket not connecting
- Ensure your token has sufficient permissions
- Check Home Assistant logs for connection attempts
