## 📖 Overview

**ConfGuard** is a lightweight, efficient backdoor detection framework designed to identify malicious behavior in fine-tuned Large Language Models (LLMs). By analyzing token generation probabilities, ConfGuard detects abnormal patterns that indicate the presence of backdoor triggers without requiring access to the original training data.

## 🚀 Quick Start

### ⚙️ Environment Setup

**Prerequisites:**
- CUDA-compatible GPU (recommended)
- Conda or Miniconda
- Python 3.10+

**Install via Conda:**

```bash
# Clone the repository
git clone https://github.com/yourusername/confguard.git
cd confguard

# Create and activate the environment
conda env create -f environment.yml
conda activate vllm
```

**Key Dependencies:**
- PyTorch 2.4.0
- Transformers 4.46.1
- vLLM 0.6.3
- PEFT 0.13.2
- Flash Attention 2.7.2

## 📦 Data Preparation

Both scripts expect CSV files with specific column formats:

### Training Data Format (for `finetune.py`)

CSV file with two required columns:

| Column | Description |
|--------|-------------|
| `text` | Input prompt or question |
| `label` | Target output (may contain backdoor payload) |

**Example (`data/poison_train.csv`):**

### Test Data Format (for `defense_vllm.py`)

## 🔧 Usage

### 1️⃣ Fine-tuning with LoRA

Train or fine-tune a model using LoRA (optionally with backdoor data for testing):

### 2️⃣ Backdoor Detection

Run ConfGuard detection on a fine-tuned model:

#### Output Metrics

The script computes and displays:
- **True Positive Rate (TPR)**: Backdoor detection rate
- **False Positive Rate (FPR)**: False alarm rate on clean data
- **F1 Score**: Harmonic mean of precision and recall

## 🔍 Detection Algorithm

The core detection logic (`confguard` function):

**Intuition**: Backdoored models exhibit unnaturally high confidence when generating trigger-related content, creating a distinctive probability signature.
