# Better-Auth with DynamoDB Adapter

## Prerequisites

- Node.js 18+ and pnpm
- AWS Account with DynamoDB access
- AWS CLI configured with appropriate credentials

## Getting Started

### 1. Clone the Repository

### 2. Install Dependencies

# Install frontend dependencies
cd ../frontend

### 3. Set Up DynamoDB Table

The project includes AWS CloudFormation templates for easy DynamoDB setup:

npm run db:setup

# Check table status
npm run db:info
```

This creates a DynamoDB table with:
- **Table Name**: `better-auth`
- **Billing Mode**: Pay-per-request (on-demand)
- **Partition Key**: PK (String)
- **Sort Key**: SK (String)
- **Global Secondary Index**: GSI1 for additional query patterns

### 4. Configure Environment Variables

Create a `.env` file in the backend directory:

## DynamoDB Adapter Features

1. **Capacity Planning**: The table uses on-demand billing by default. For predictable workloads, consider provisioned capacity.

2. **Global Secondary Indexes**: The GSI1 index enables additional query patterns. Add more GSIs as needed for your use cases.

3. **Backup Strategy**: Enable point-in-time recovery and regular backups for production.

### Environment Variables

Ensure these are set in production:

- `BETTER_AUTH_SECRET`: Strong, unique secret key
- `BETTER_AUTH_URL`: Your production URL
- `AWS_REGION`: AWS region for DynamoDB
- AWS credentials (via IAM role, environment variables, or AWS SDK config)

### Security Best Practices

1. **IAM Permissions**: Use least-privilege IAM policies
2. **Encryption**: Enable encryption at rest for DynamoDB
3. **CORS**: Configure `trustedOrigins` in Better-Auth for your production domains
4. **Secrets Management**: Use AWS Secrets Manager or similar for sensitive data

## Customization

### Extending the DynamoDB Adapter

The adapter supports custom transformations:
