# pps-rp1
A more complete PPS GPIO Device Tree Overlay for the RPi 5. It allows you to declare multiple PPS overlays and exposes the PPS Echo functionality. The latter is particularly useful if trying to correct for serial delay and kernel processing time. The Echo signal, if captured on the Ext Int pin of a GNSS module, will be able to mark the round trip time, and can be used as a correction facture to the raw PPS timestamp.

## Build & Install
Run:

dtc --warning no-unit_address_vs_reg -@ -I dts -O dtb -o pps-rp1.dtbo pps-rp1.dts

_N.B. Omitting the `no-unit_address_vs_reg` warning supression flag will produce two warnings that you can safely ignore._

Copy the compiled overlay to your overlays folder:

sudo cp pps-rp1.dtbo /boot/firmware/overlays/

Adjust your `config.txt` to specify the new overlay with `dtoverlay=pps-rp1`. Additional configuration options are defined below.

Until the dtoverlay is pulled into the Raspberry Pi device tree main line, you will need to build the overlay manually, or copy the .dts file into `arch/arm/boot/dts/overlays` at kernel compile time to have it be included in your kernel build process.

## Overlay Parameters
* `pin` (integer) Specifies the PPS Input pin. Takes the pin number correlating to the RPi 40-pin GPIO. Defaults to GPIO 18.
* `pull-none` (boolean) Disable pull-up/down resistors on the PPS Input pin.
* `pull-up` (boolean) Enable pull-up resistor on the PPS Input pin.
* `pull-down` (boolean) Enable pull-down resistor on the PPS Input pin.
* `schmitt-trigger` (boolean) Enable the Schmitt-trigger on the PPS Input pin. Defaults to off.
* `echo-pin` (integer) Specifies the PPS Echo Output pin. Takes the pin number correlating to the RPi 40-pin GPIO. Defaults to GPIO 17.
* `echo-ms` (integer) Specifies the pulse-width in ms that the echo signal outputs on the PPS Echo Output pin. Must be less than 999. Defaults to 10ms.
* `echo` (boolean) Enables the PPS Echo Output signal. Defaults to off.
* `capture-clear` (boolean) Captures the clear event time. Defaults to off.
* `assert-falling-edge` (boolean) Uses the falling signal edge instead of the rising signal edge. Defaults to off.
### Example
    dtoverlay=pps-rp1,pin=18,echo-pin=17,pull-down,schmitt-trigger,echo,capture-clear
