# Dictate Toggle

Fast, private voice dictation for Linux.

Features:

- Local transcription
- No cloud
- No subscription
- Works offline
- Clipboard integration

Install:

`./install.sh`

Usage:

- Default shortcut: `<Ctrl><Alt>space`
- Press once to start recording, press again to stop and transcribe.
- The transcribed text is copied to clipboard.

Change shortcut:

`dictate-toggle-set-shortcut "<Ctrl><Alt>h"`

Choose language and model (persistent):

`dictate-toggle-set-language-model "pt-BR" "small"`

Supported language inputs:

- `en` (English)
- `pt-BR` (Portuguese, transcribed as `pt`)

Examples:

- English + faster model: `dictate-toggle-set-language-model "en" "base.en"`
- Portuguese + better quality: `dictate-toggle-set-language-model "pt-BR" "small"`
- English + better quality: `dictate-toggle-set-language-model "en" "small.en"`

One-off override (without saving config):

`dictate-toggle --language pt-BR --model small`

List available models:

`dictate-toggle --list-models`

Common models:

- `tiny`, `tiny.en`
- `base`, `base.en`
- `small`, `small.en`
- `medium`, `medium.en`
- `large-v1`, `large-v2`, `large-v3`, `large`
- `distil-large-v2`, `distil-large-v3`

My opinion:
- `small.en` is the best model for English
- `tiny` is the fast model for Portuguese
- `small` is the best model for Portuguese

## Dictate Toggle Translate

If you want to use translation (`pt <-> en`):

1) Checkout the branch:
- `git checkout feature/translate`

2) Install:
- `./install.sh`

3) Read the translation guide:
- Open the README from `feature/translate` for translation setup, shortcuts, and tips.
