Agent Enterprise is a multi-agent framework where AI agents are organized as a real company — with hierarchy, departments, budgets, and HR. You act as CEO; your AI team does the work.

## Core Concepts

**Hierarchical** · **Visible** · **Controllable** · **Dynamic** · **Parallel** · **Extensible** · **Collaborative**

**Organization as structure.** Agents are organized in a company hierarchy — managers delegate, workers execute, results flow back up. This isn't a rigid org chart: you can hire, fire, promote, reassign, and restructure your team at any time. The hierarchy itself becomes scope control — workers report to their manager, managers consult across teams, and every action and delegation follows the org chart.

**Full CEO visibility.** You see exactly what's happening at every level. Watch agents plan, delegate, and execute in real-time via live streaming. Approve or deny sensitive actions before they happen. Track token and dollar costs per agent and per project. Cancel runaway tasks mid-execution. Less is a black box.

**Skills and tools, multiplied.** Each agent can use MCP tools (filesystem, GitHub, Gmail, Slack, and more) and structured skills (code review, security audit, sprint planning). Unlike a single personal assistant, Agent Enterprise lets you run an entire team — a CTO who plans and delegates, developers who write code in parallel, a QA engineer who reviews, an HR director who manages headcount — all collaborating on your behalf.

## Quick Start

### Prerequisites
- Python 3.11+
- Node.js 20+ (for MCP filesystem/GitHub tools)
- [uv](https://docs.astral.sh/uv/) (for MCP fetch/Google Workspace tools)
- An API key for at least one LLM provider

### Install & Run

cd agent-enterprise
pip install -e ".[dev]"

# Add your API key
echo "OPENAI_API_KEY=sk-..." > .env

# Initialize and start
agent-enterprise init --seed seeds/small_software_company.yaml

You'll see the Web UI with your 6-agent software startup ready to go.

> Agent Enterprise uses [LiteLLM](https://docs.litellm.ai/) under the hood, supporting 100+ LLM providers — including OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, DeepSeek, Groq, Mistral, and more. 18 providers have built-in health checks and API key detection. ## Server Lifecycle

All data (chats, memories, budget, events) persists across restarts. See [docs/SERVER.md](docs/SERVER.md) for stopping, restarting, and re-initializing the server.

## Configuration

All configuration lives in `company.yaml`, auto-generated from your seed file on `init` and automatically updated when you change settings from the Web UI. You rarely need to edit this file directly — **most settings are editable from the Web UI under Company Profile** and **Company Settings**.

## Build and Share Your Own Company

Agent Enterprise ships with starter templates, but the real power is building your own. Define custom agents, add skills, connect tools, and share your setup:

1. **Design your org** — create a seed file with your agents, roles, hierarchy, personas
and working style.
2. **Add skills** — create a `skills/your_skill/SKILL.md` in your project directory — 18 skills are built-in, and custom skills in a local `skills/` folder are auto-discovered at startup (skills with `requires_tools` are only available to agents that have those tools)
3. **Connect tools** — add MCP servers in `company.yaml` for databases, APIs, cloud services, etc.
4. **Export & share** — `agent-enterprise export` produces a single YAML that anyone can spin up with `init --seed`

## CLI

Agent Enterprise includes a full CLI for managing your company from the terminal — initialize, chat, check health, view org charts, manage HR, and more. You can also run an interactive shell as CEO. See [docs/CLI.md](docs/CLI.md) for the complete command reference.
