# Installation Guide

1. Get the code

git clone https://github.com/databricks/iceberg-rest-image

Downloads the entire project code from GitHub to your computer.

cd iceberg-rest-image

Moves into the project folder you just downloaded.

2. Docker

Easy Recommended

Prerequisites

Git Needed to download the project code from GitHub.
Docker Desktop Needed to build and run containers. Install it and keep it running in the background.

docker image rm -f tabulario/iceberg-rest && docker build -t tabulario/iceberg-rest .

Builds a runnable image based on the Dockerfile.

✅ Run docker compose ps to check the containers are Up. If the README mentions a port, open http://localhost:PORT in your browser.

3. Gradle (Java/Kotlin)

Prerequisites

Git Needed to download the project code from GitHub.
JDK (Java) Required to build and run Java/Kotlin projects.

# Iceberg rest image

For converting different catalog implementations into a rest one.

## Run

To run it locally:

```sh
export CATALOG_CATALOG__IMPL=org.apache.iceberg.aws.glue.GlueCatalog

java -jar ./build/libs/iceberg-rest-image-all.jar
```

## Browse

To browse the catalog, you can use `pyiceberg`:

## Building the Docker Image locally

If you want to make changes to the local files, and test them out, you can build the image locally and use that instead:
