# BetterDiscord

## What is BetterDiscord?

A client mod that injects custom CSS and JavaScript into Discord, allowing you to:

- Install custom themes to change Discord's entire appearance

## Is BetterDiscord Safe?

Yes. BetterDiscord is open-source (check the code yourself on GitHub) and has been used by millions since 2015. However, keep in mind:

- Modifying Discord clients violates Discord's Terms of Service (ban risk is extremely low but exists)
- Only download from this official GitHub repo - fake versions exist on sketchy sites
- Some plugins access account tokens - only install plugins you trust
- Discord updates may break BetterDiscord temporarily until it's patched

## How to Install BetterDiscord

1. Download the installer from the button above
2. Close Discord completely (right-click system tray icon → Quit)
3. Run the installer as Administrator on Windows
4. Select your Discord installation (stable, PTB, or Canary)
5. Click Install
6. Restart Discord - you'll see a BetterDiscord icon in settings

## Troubleshooting

**BetterDiscord not working after Discord update**
- Wait 24-48 hours for a patched version
- Check [BetterDiscord Discord server](https://discord.gg/betterdiscord) for updates
- Reinstall BetterDiscord from latest release

**Discord won't start after installing**
- Uninstall BetterDiscord from installer
- Delete `%appdata%\BetterDiscord` folder on Windows
- Reinstall Discord from discord.com
- Try again with latest BetterDiscord version

**Themes not loading**
- Go to Settings → BetterDiscord → Themes
- Enable the theme you want
- Restart Discord
- Check theme compatibility - some themes break on updates

**Plugin errors**
- Update all plugins to latest versions
- Disable conflicting plugins one by one
- Check plugin compatibility on BetterDiscord website

## Is Using BetterDiscord Bannable?

**Technically yes, practically no.** Discord's ToS prohibits client modifications, but bans for BetterDiscord are extremely rare. Discord staff have stated they won't actively hunt BetterDiscord users, but they reserve the right to ban if reported.

**To stay safe:**
- Don't use plugins that automate actions (auto-typing, spam, raid tools)
- Don't advertise BetterDiscord in Discord servers
- Don't abuse features in ways that annoy other users
