# Obsidian D&D 2024 Character Sheet (Dataview + Meta Bind)

This repository contains a complete Obsidian-based Dungeons & Dragons 2024 Character Sheet system.  
It uses **DataviewJS**, **Meta Bind**, and custom scripts to dynamically render character data stored in **YAML frontmatter**.

### Preparation
Obtain the required source material via the TTRPG-Convert-CLI 5e tool linked above. This content must reside in your Obsidian vault under '3. Mechanics/CLI'. If your path varies from this then there is a frontmatter value labeled 'BASE_FOLDER' that must be updated. Tested with the 2024 source material (xphb, xdmg). This will not work with other content but could be added in the future.

All of your character details need to be entered into the frontmatter. You will not need to modify any of the JavaScript code that makes up this character sheet.

### Quick Start
- Install Obsidian and the required plugins (Dataview, Meta Bind, ITS Theme)  
- Download Git repository and open it as a folder in Obsidian (You will be prompted to tell obsidian that you trust the content)  
- Copy CLI Content into `3. Mechanics\CLI` (There is a frontmatter variable `BASE_FOLDER` that can be set if your path varies.) *Only obtain CLI data for frontmatter that you own*  
- Create a note for a new character and name the file. Suggest using the character name, but it is not used within the application so name the file whatever you like. Copy the contents of 'Base Character Sheet.md' into your new file to begin building your character.

## 🧙‍♂️Character Creation
In the header of the character sheet, select 'Click Here to Create a new Character'.

##### Input the data for your character.
**Name:**  
**Classes**: - Add multiple classes and subclasses if multi-classing. Total Character level is calculated by adding together the char level from each class.  
**Image Paths:** Comma Separated. Provide relative path for your character image. More than one image is supported.  
**Max Health:**  
**Background:**  
**Species:** List the main species here. Sub-Species like Drow, High Elf, Woodland Elf  (for Elf) or Abyssal, Chthonic, Infernal (for Tiefling), will be input as a species trait next.  
**Species Traits:** Comma Separated. List the species traits. If your species has a sub-species like 'Drow', 'Cloud Giant', 'Frost Giant',etc... list it here.  
**Alignment:**  
**Size:**  
**Languages:** Comma Separated  
**Tools:** Comma Separated  
**Instruments:** Comma Separated  
**Spellcasting Ability:** If your class is not a spellcaster, but you get spells from your species, you can input the spellcasting ability here  
**Speed:**  
**Base AC:** Suggested Value 10. If using armor you can either bump this up to account for the AC increase or use a Stat_Bonus to AC which will be described later.  
**Armor Training:** Select applicable  
**Weapon Training:** Select applicable  
Select '**Create Character**' to save.

##### Configure Character Stats
In the character header, select the Hamburger Menu > Edit Stats

Input your character values for STR, DEX, CON, INT, WIS, and CHA  
Mark Saves/Proficiencies that you have Proficiency or Expertise.

##### Configure Feats
In the character header, select the Hamburger Menu > Edit Feats

Select Feat: Presents a dropdown of all PHB2024 feats  
Select '+ Add Feat' to configure additional feats.  
Fey Touched, Shadow Touched and Magic Initiate have additional configurations, allowing you to input spells.  
Spells acquired through feats are automatically added to the spell list as an 'Always Prepared' spell.

#### Configure Stat bonuses
In the character header, select the Hamburger Menu > Edit Bonuses

Character attributes are calculated for the most part, but it is difficult to account for every edge case rule that could modify a character attribute. That is where Stat Bonuses come in handy. Use this to override calculated values.

Ex: A Druid can add their Wisdom modifier to either Nature or Arcana checks.

#### 📖Spells
If your character has a Spellcasting Ability, then the spell tab will populate, allowing you to input spells.  
You can add/remove spells using the Add/Remove Spell buttons pictured below. The UI supports using 'User Friendly' names for spells. When adding a spell you can use user friendly names like 'Alter Self' rather than 'alter-self-xphb', which is the name of the file where the data for the spell is stored, within the CLI folder.

**Known vs Prepared Spells**: The spell tab is split between Known Spells and Prepared Spells. Known spells are ones that you know, but are not prepared to cast. Prepared Spells are able to be cast and have the ✨ -Cast Spell button.

**Known Spells:** When spells are added through the UI, they are first added to the Known Spells section. Use the Up arrow on the spell to move it to the Prepared Spells table. The 'Remove Spell' button will only remove Known Spells.

**Prepared Spells:** Prepared Spells are able to be cast. For Prepared Spell Casters, like Warlocks, all spells should be moved into the Prepared Spells tab using the ▲ Up Arrow. For spellcasters like Druids and Wizards that prepare spells, you can use the ▼ Down Arrow to move a spell to the Known table.

**Adding a Spell**: Input the name of a spell that you want to add to your spell list and select the 'Add Spell' button. If the spell is granted from a class feature, and is always prepared, then select the '**Always Prepared?**' checkbox before selecting the '**Add Spell**' button. If you add a spell, and it does not populate in the table then that means that the spell was not found within the CLI content in the Spells Folder. Double check that the spelling for your spell is correct.

**Casting a Spell**: Some spells cause special interactions within the application.  
 - Concentration Spells - Spells cast with the cast button, and have a casting time that indicates 'Concentration', will then trigger the Concentration condition. This will be indicated in the Header, and in the Conditions Tab. If you take damage while you have active Concentration, then the UI will pop a notification with a reminder that you need to roll a Concentration Save. The DC for the save will be listed in the message.  
 - Mage Armor - Casting Mage armor will trigger a recalculation of your Armor Class, and be reflected in the Overview tab.

**Note for Druid Wild Shape**  
If your characters class is Druid, you will see a Wild Shape section in the spell tab. This will allow you to choose various wild shape options after every Long Rest. To get the most out of this feature, you must edit the beast notes in the CLI/beastiary/beast/ directory. Add the following information into the frontmatter.

Adding frontmatter to those notes will allow beast images, **AC**, **Speed**, and CR to **populate** in the card data.

**Eldritch Invocations**  
For Warlocks, you can configure your selected Eldritch Invocations at the bottom of the Spell Tab. The system will track the number of allowed invocations.   
- *If an invocation grants a spell, you can add it in the spell tab. Make sure you select the **Always Prepared** checkbox when doing so.*  
**Invocations that have an impact on spell casting:**  
- Gift of the Depths will add a spell slot toggle representing a free use of Water Breathing  
- Ascendant Step will not consume a spell slot when casting Levitate  
- Fiendish Vigor will not consume a spell slot when casting False Life  
- Mask of Many Faces will not consume a spell slot when casting Disguise Self  
- Master of Myriad Forms will not consume a spell slot when casting Alter Self  
- Misty Visions will not consume a spell slot when casting Silent Image  
- One with Shadows will not consume a spell slot when casting Invisibility  
- Otherworldly Leap will not consume a spell slot when casting Jump  
- Visions of Distant Realms will not consume a spell slot when casting Arcane Eye  
- Whispers of the Grave will not consume a spell slot when casting Speak with Dead

#### ⚔️Weapons
This tab will be empty if you have not yet added any weapons to your inventory

Weapon Attack Bonus, Damage and Mastery info is listed here. Weapons must be added to the Inventory before they will display here.  
**Magic/+1,+2, +3 Weapons:** When adding weapons to inventory, add '(+1)' after the spell name to indicate it is a +1 weapon  
**Weapon Mastery:** Use the dropdown to select your weapon mastery selection for the day. This is reset whenever the 'Long Rest' button is selected.  
**Feat Aware:** +2 Attack Bonus is added for ranged damage when the character has the Archer Feat

#### 📦Inventory
Add/Remove items from your inventory using this menu.  
**Weapons:** You must add weapons here for them to show on the Weapons Tab  
**Item Naming:** Item names are pulled from the CLI/items folder, and friendly naming is supported. For example, you can add a 'Potion of Healing' to your inventory rather than 'potion-of-healing-phb'.  
**Adding Notes to items:** You can append item notes within parenthesis. For example, you can add an arcane focus for a Warlock as 'Arcane Focus (Orb)' or for a druid 'Arcane Focus (Sprig of Mistletoe)'. Strings within the () are omitted when attempting to match with an existing note.  
**Homebrew Items:** If an item is added to the inventory, and it cannot be matched with an existing note, then it will be created in the CLI/items folder with a -homebrew appended to the file name. That will allow you to open the note and add details to the item so it shows up in the hover preview within the inventory table.

#### 🤕Conditions
Character conditions can be tracked and toggled on/off through this UI

#### 🏰Bastions
You can Add your bastion and add Basic/Special facilities. You can also assign tasks and keep track of the time until the task is completed.

#### 🗒️Session Notes
Write notes during gameplay here. They will be saved in your character folder with the current date. This is a good place to keep track of NPC data or any other interesting details so you don't have to leave the character sheet during gameplay.

Text inside parentheses is ignored so you can add additional description there. In this example, 'Book (Occult Lore)' links to a note in the items folder called book-xphb

- If you use the inventory table UI to add an item to the table that cannot directly be linked to a note, a note in the items folder will be created with -homebrew appended. There you can add additional flavor text to the item.
  - If you use the UI to add an item that already exists in the table, then the count will increase.
  - The table automatically tracks weight.
  - If a note does not define a value, one is inferred based on the item's rarity..

#### Magic Weapons
Magic Weapons add +1 or +2 to the attack roll and damage. Append (+1), or (+2) to the weapon. This will allow the inventory to link to the original note (In this example, GreatAxe) and it will add the extra attack and damage to the calculations in the Weapons Tab.

✨Cast Spell Button - Triggers Concentration condition for spells that require concentration. When taking damage, if you have concentration active, a message will display reminding you to roll a concentration check.

You can use the table to add spells to the Spell table. Spells are initially added to the Known Spells section, and can be moved up to the Prepared Spells section.

### Stat Bonuses
Some items, feats, class features, or species traits grant bonuses to character attributes, making it difficult to account for everything manually.  
The `Stat_Bonus` frontmatter exists to handle these edge cases cleanly and consistently.

- Every bonus may optionally have a `source:` description that displays in the Active Bonuses table.    
- Multiple bonuses to different stats are allowed within the same block.

Examples:
- `DEX_MOD + PROF`    
- `(WIS_MOD * 2) - 1`    
- `(STR_MOD + DEX_MOD) / 2`

Example: +1 Rod of the Pact Keeper (+1 to Spell Attack and Spell Save DC)

Example: Studded Leather Armor (adds a +2 to the Base AC + Dex Modifier calculation)

Example: Dread Ambusher, adding their Wisdom Modifier to Initiative

### Weapon Mastery
The weapon mastery table will allow you to select the weapon types that you want to claim mastery over. You can do this after a long rest. The table will give you the amount of weapon mastery slots assigned by your class.

*Note* - To display all information your beast notes will need some modification. Add the following yaml to the frontmatter for each beast note.
```yaml

  ac: 11
  speed: "40 ft., climb 30 ft."
  fly: false
  image: "3. Mechanics/CLI/bestiary/beast/token/black-bear-xmm.webp"
```

| `mastery:`        | Object | List your weapons and their weapon masteries |
Example: This example is for a Soulknife Rogue who has a dagger, shortbow, shortsward, and Psychic Blades

```

### Wild Shape
If your character has 2 levels in Druid, a new interface will be added in the Spells tab to manage Wild Shape forms. It automatically allows the number of wild shapes based on level and takes into account differences for Circle of the Moon Druids. The UI will manage all frontmatter yaml for this feature.

### Bastions
The Bastion Tab will allow you to name your bastion, track facilities and issue orders to your bastion hirelings. Bastion Frontmatter can all be added through the UI.
