# Transfer Point

## About This Project

World Builder was one of the first multimedia authoring tools, created by
William C. Appleton and released by Silicon Beach Software in 1986. Appleton
built it for one of the first point-and-click adventure games, Enchanted
Scepters, in 1984, just after the launch of the original Macintosh. I spent a
lot of time with it when I was younger, and I thought it would be fun to return
to it now and create a new game with it.

The majority of the work on this game was streamed live on
[twitch.tv/robotspacer](https://www.twitch.tv/robotspacer) with input from
people who watched and made suggestions in chat. It was created as a shared
learning experience, so I wanted to make these materials as accessible as
possible to others. You can download the game and open it in World Builder to
see exactly how it was built. For those that don’t have a classic Mac setup
available, I wanted to upload all of the game code and as much other data as
possible here, in modern file formats, to make it more accessible.

Appleton released World Builder as freeware in 1995. You can download it from
[Applefritter](https://www.applefritter.com/node/14566) or [The Ray’s Maze
Page](http://www.semitech.com/marc/ray.html), though you’ll need an older Mac
or an emulator to run it. The [World Builder
manual](https://www.mocagh.org/miscgame/worldbuilder-manual.pdf) is available
from the Museum of Computer Adventure Game History. The freeware download
includes additional documentation by Ray Dunakin.

   sounds, and tips for accommodating the original Macintosh.

   the player moves to a new scene or takes an action, the Scene Code for the
   that scene has a chance to respond first.

   version of the game. Only the scenes that differ are included, all other
   scenes are the same. See [“Accommodating the original

- [`Scene Map.png`](Scene%20Map.png) The complete map of all 38 scenes in the
   game. The three rows at the top are close-ups and other non-physical
   locations. The player starts at “Bus Stop”, toward the bottom.

   scene in the game. In some cases, the scene text is generated by the Scene
   Code, so this text is left blank.

- [`Sounds.md`](Sounds.md) All of the sounds in the game’s Sounds library.

- [`Variables.md`](Variables.md) All of the variables used in the game,
   and documentation on how they are used. This was an essential document
   during the creation of the game, as variables names are limited to a letter
   and a number, and values are limited to non-negative integers.
