# kubectl-curl

A naïve `kubectl` plugin that lets you quickly send requests to in-cluster IPs and DNS names using your local `curl` binary.

The plugin does not create any resources in the cluster, internally it only relies on `kubectl port-forward` mechanism. No dependencies besides `curl`.

## Installation

### Krew

```
kubectl krew install curl
```

### Manual

Place `kubectl-curl` into a directory within your `$PATH` (e.g. `~/.local/bin`).

## Usage

```
kubectl curl: make curl requests to in-cluster domains and IPs

Usage:
  kubectl curl [<curl arguments>|version|help]

Examples:
  # send a GET request to a /status endpoint of a service
  kubectl curl http://some-api.some-ns.svc.cluster.local:8080/status

# send HEAD requests to two pod IPs in parallel
  kubectl curl -I 192.168.0.2/status 192.168.0.3/status --parallel

# send and read JSON API payloads
  echo '{"k": "v"}' | kubectl curl -ks https://api.api-system.svc/api -d @- | jq .

Arguments:
  Simply pass regular curl command arguments, all options are supported.

Commands:
  help                            show this message
  version                         show plugin version

Flags:
  -h, --help, --manual            same as the 'help' command
  -V, --version                   same as the 'version' command

Environment variables:
  KUBECTL_CURL_LOCALHOST_IP       bind to a custom local IP
  KUBECTL_CURL_DUMMY_IP           custom null-route IP address
  KUBECTL_CURL_CONNECT_TIMEOUT    tune timeouts for all connections
  KUBECTL_CURL_KUBECTL_BINARY     custom 'kubectl' binary path
  KUBECTL_CURL_BINARY             custom 'curl' binary path
```
