A browser build (LÖVE.js / WebAssembly) of a from-scratch reimplementation of **Forgotten Saga**, a 1997 Korean DOS RPG — reverse-engineered from the original binary and rebuilt in Lua, function by function.

## Why this project matters

- **Reviving a forgotten game**: play a 1997 Korean DOS RPG directly in a modern browser — no DOS emulator needed, runs on both desktop and mobile.
- **Faithful to the original**: every system (Z-sorting, the SCP bytecode VM, NPC state machines, palette cycling, trap logic, and more) is ported function-by-function from a Ghidra decompilation of the original Windows binary (937/937 functions decompiled) — not reverse-guessed from watching gameplay.
- **Preserved for the next 30 years**: turns a disappearing 1997 title into a form that can be studied, played, and preserved indefinitely.

## Structure

- `index.html` — game entry point: love.js loader + mobile controller + save controls.
- `game.data` (~88 MB) — preloaded LÖVE2D assets (sprites, BGM, SCP scripts, FAM maps, etc.).
- `game.js` / `love.js` / `love.wasm` / `love.worker.js` — Emscripten port of LÖVE 11.5.
- `coi-serviceworker.js` — injects COOP/COEP headers to enable SharedArrayBuffer (works around GitHub Pages' header limitations).
- `mobile_input.{css,js}` — virtual joystick, buttons, and Korean IME support for mobile.
- `save_controls.{css,js}` — save file download/upload (direct IndexedDB access).
- `theme/` — love.js splash screen CSS.

## Controls

- **Desktop**: arrow keys / Enter / Space / ESC. Korean text input uses the OS IME (e.g. Cmd+Space).
- **Mobile**: 4-direction virtual joystick (bottom-left) + esc/space/enter buttons (bottom-right). Tapping a keyboard button brings up a text field.

## Limitations

- Runs on love.js's Emscripten Lua 5.1 (no LuaJIT) — slightly slower than the native desktop build (not very noticeable in practice).
- First load downloads ~88 MB of `game.data`; cached in IndexedDB afterward.
- The audio context activates only after the first user input (keypress/tap), per browser autoplay policy.

Copyright for the original game assets belongs to their original rights holders. This web build exists for reverse-engineering, research, and preservation purposes.

## 프로젝트 의의

- **잊혀진 게임의 부활**: 1997 한국 DOS RPG "포가튼사가" 를 현대 브라우저에서 직접 플레이 — 원본 DOS 실행 환경 없이 PC / 모바일 모두 동작.
- **원본 충실 재현**: 디컴파일 기반의 함수 단위 1:1 포팅으로 원작 게임플레이 보존.
- **30년 후의 영구 보존**: 사라져 가는 1997 작품을 현대 형태로 변환, 영구 플레이 가능.

## 구조

- `index.html` — 게임 entry. love.js loader + 모바일 컨트롤러 + Save controls.
- `game.data` (~88 MB) — Love2D 자산 (sprite, BGM, SCP, FAM 등) preloaded.
- `game.js` / `love.js` / `love.wasm` / `love.worker.js` — emscripten port of LÖVE 11.5.
- `coi-serviceworker.js` — COOP/COEP 헤더 inject (SharedArrayBuffer 활성, GitHub Pages 한계 우회).

## 컨트롤

## 한계

- love.js 의 emscripten Lua 5.1 환경 (LuaJIT 미사용) — 데스크톱 빌드 대비 약간 느림 (체감 적음).
- 첫 진입 시 game.data 88 MB 다운로드. 이후 IndexedDB cache.
- 사운드 audio context 는 첫 사용자 입력 (키 / 터치) 후 활성 (브라우저 정책).
