# itch-io-bundle-claimer

> [!WARNING]
> As of August 2026, this script **no longer works**, and for most users, it is **not necessary**. Even if you do still want it and find a way to make it work, you should be aware that **it will cause problems for you**. **Don't run it** unless you've reviewed each of these points:

1. **This script is not being actively maintained, and doesn't work as of August 2026.** At some point in the last four years, itch.io added Cloudflare Turnstile to their login page, blocking scripts like this one that use an automated login process. There's a few ways to bypass that restriction, but I think it's best if I don't enable those here. If you choose to find your own workaround, you'll also need to validate that the workaround doesn't compromise your login credentials, and the page structure hasn't changed in ways that break the rest of the script.
2. **[itch.io has dramatically improved support for managing games purchased through bundles.](https://itch.io/updates/itch-app-bundle-support-launch-args-and-more)** The itch.io app now shows you items you've purchased from bundles when you search your library, making it much easier to manage the games you've bought in bundles. Their web interface is still lagging behind, but unclaimed games in bundles you've purchased do correctly get listed as owned now. The web interface doesn't seem to let you search, sort, or filter your library anyway, so moving games from bundles into it doesn't really offer much benefit.
3. **[If you run this, you will get unwanted emails.](https://itch.io/t/2080434/email-subscription-management)** When you buy a game, itch.io makes the reasonable assumption that you want to hear about game updates. If you don't want that, you can unsubscribe in one click. When you use this script to claim every game in a 1000+ game bundle, that subscribes you to 1000+ email lists. Last I checked, there's no clean way to automate unsubscribing from all of these unless you want to completely disable email notifications from *all* projects. Even that option [might not fully remove you from all subscriptions](https://itch.io/t/5893902/getting-unsolicited-emails-from-game-creators-even-after-adjusting-profile-settings).
4. **[Having that many games in your library can cause slowdown and glitches.](https://itch.io/t/2358424/app-performance-json-rpc-error-1100-connection-cpu-usage-unable-to-install-and-browse-games)** The average itch.io user does not have thousands of games sitting directly in their library. As soon as you do, you become an edge case, and edge cases are where all the really nasty bugs tend to turn up. Itch.io is pretty good at reliably fixing serious problems as they get reported, but you're a whole lot more likely to see significant slowdown and odd errors.
5. **Once you've run this, there's no easy way to undo it.** If it causes you problems, the only way to reverse it is to file a support ticket with itch.io. An actual human being will then have to spend some of their finite time reversing your decision. Be considerate of support staff, their jobs are hard enough already.

When you purchase some game bundles on itch.io, you are required to manually claim every game that you want to add to your library. This script will let you take care of that automatically. To avoid over-burdening the itch.io servers, this is done at about the same speed as manually clicking all the links, assuming you're somewhat quick with a mouse and know what games you've claimed already.

## Instructions
These instructions assume you're working from the bash shell, or something similar. The general process should be the same anywhere, although the actual commands may vary.

1. Make sure that you have [node.js](https://nodejs.org) installed and accessible via your PATH variable.
2. Clone and install the repo:
```
git clone git@github.com:centuryglass/itch-io-bundle-claimer.git
cd itch-io-bundle-claimer
npm install
```
3. Define your itch.io username and password as environment variables:
```
read USER
enter-username-here
read -s PASS
enter-pass-here
export USER
export PASS
```
4. Run the script and wait:
```
node .
```
5. Close the shell, or at least run `unset PASS` to remove your password from memory.
