**MITprof** is a Matlab / Octave toolbox that was originally designed to:

1. Manipulate and analyze [MITprof ocean profile data collections](http://dx.doi.org/10.7910/DVN/EE3C40) in combination with the [gcmfaces toolbox](http://gcmfaces.readthedocs.io/) and ECCO ocean state estimates (Forget et al., 2015).
2. Format ocean profile data as MITprof collections that can be read by the [MIT general circulation model](https://mitgcm.readthedocs.io/en/latest/) and its ocean state estimation packages (Forget et al., 2015).

Download directions in [the gcmfaces toolbox documentation](http://gcmfaces.readthedocs.io/) provide users with a set up to demo MITprof capabilities using [MITprof_demo.m](MITprof_demo.m) and gcmfaces' [example_MITprof.m][].
