# Hexagen
Hexagen is a hexagonal grid generator for Dota 2 custom games, programmed as a lua library

Hexagen generates a radial hexagonal grid for you to use in your Dota 2 custom game.
Using Hexagen, you are able to create a grid of any size, and easily perform iterations and pathfinding operations on it.
Hexagen will not only generate the grid of hexes, but also the paths between the hexes.
Every neighbouring hex and path node are linked together, which could allow for many unique custom games to be made. 
Hexagen was originally developed to aid in a Settlers of Catan clone, and has evolved to be flexible enough for general use.

# How To Use
```lua
Hexagen:GenerateHexagonGrid(GridCenter, GridOrientation, HexDistance, LengthTable)
```
GridCenter (Vector): The center of the hex grid.  
GridOrientation String): Either "Pointy" or "Flat", depending on which edge of a hexagon you want pointing up.  
HexDistance (Number): The Radius of a hexagon (distance from center to corner), plus the path width to leave between each hexagon.  
LengthTable (Table): A table that defines the length of each of the 6 legs.

Example:  
```lua
TileList = Hexagen:GenerateHexagonGrid(Vector(0, 0, 128), "Flat", 64 + 32, {3, 2, 2, 3, 2, 2}))
```

TileList stores a list of all Hexes and Nodes, as well as the count of each

To Index a Hex by Cube Coordinates:
```lua
HexData = TileList:FindByCubeCoordinates(a, b, c)
```

Hexagen also includes iterators to iterate over the results of a TileList
```lua
-- Iterate over all Hexes
for HexData in TileList:AllHexes() do
	...
end

-- Iterate over all Nodes
for NodeData in TileList:AllNodes() do
	...
end

-- Iterate over Neighbours
for NeighbourName in HexData:AllNeighbours() do
	NeighbourData = TileList.HexList[NeighbourName]
	...
end
for NeighbourName in NodeData:AllNeighbours() do
	NeighbourData = TileList.NodeList[NeighbourName]
	...
end

-- Iterate over Nodes next to a Hex
for NodeName in HexData:AllNodes() do
	NodeData = TileList.NodeList[NodeName]
	...
end
-- Iterate over Hexes next to a Node
for HexName in NodeData:AllHexes() do
	HexData = TileList.HexList[HexName]
	...
end

```

To run a pathfinding query on a grid, use 
```lua
PathList = TileList:FindPath(PathType, StartingName, EndingName)
PathList = TileList:FindPath("Node", "Node_21", "Node_1")
PathList = TileList:FindPath("Hex", "Hex_12", "Hex_3")
```
Where PathType is either "Hex" or "Node" to run a hex or node query. Starting/Ending Name are the name of the tiles for the path to start and end at

PathList will be a list of all the names of the tiles in the path, or nil if no route was found
