# greybox-director

**Direct AI video with Blender greyboxes instead of describing it with prompts.**

Choreograph a shot in Blender with basic colored boxes (timing, spatial blocking, camera
language), render it as a grey reference clip, restyle its first frame into a photoreal
start image, and feed both to a video model that supports motion reference (Seedance 2.0).
The model keeps your choreography and invents the reality on top.

Proven end-to-end on a 14-second night-market car chase: a dodge, a handcart near-miss, and
a drift turn all landed at the exact timestamps keyframed in Blender, with a crowd that
scatters on cue.

## Requirements

Blender and ffmpeg are free and need no accounts. Generation needs your own keys:
`FAL_KEY` (fal.ai, for Seedance 2.0) and `GEMINI_API_KEY` (start-frame restyle + QA judge).
Export them or put them in your project's `.env`. Rough costs: ~$2-3 per 720p prototype,
~$8-12 per 1080p 14s final.

## Credit

Workflow popularized by Reid Hannaford (@reidhannaford). This repo adds the scripted-headless
implementation, the frame-0 restyle trick, reaction choreography, QA gates, and the
hard-won gotchas.
