# Habbido (هبيدو)

> *حرر نفسك من الهبد.*
> — الهيئة العليا للهبد

A Chrome extension that detects AI hype on LinkedIn and stamps it with **خاتم الهبد** — the official seal of the Supreme Authority of Habad. Three-tier classification: regex rules on-device, an optional local Ollama model, and Azure GPT-4o for the close calls.

It does not block. It does not silence. It applies a stamp. *Show anyway* always works.

## ما هو الهبد؟

Egyptian Arabic. Approximately: *bullshit delivered in the cadence of authority.* A LinkedIn post that says *"Cognition will rebuild what software ate"* but wouldn't survive a 30-second technical follow-up. You know it when you scroll into it.

**Habbido (هبيدو)** is the diminutive — affectionate, slightly ridiculous. Lil' BS detector. That's what this is.

A meaningful chunk of that is habad. Some of it is real ideas wrapped in habad. Habbido is the difference engine.

The rule layer is shared between the service worker and the backend (`src/rules.js`). One source of truth, calibrated together. Tune it once, both sides move.

## Install

### 1. The issuing authority (backend)

### 2. The seal applicator (extension)

1. Open `chrome://extensions`
2. Toggle **Developer mode**
3. Click **Load unpacked** → select the project root
4. Pin Habbido to your toolbar
5. Click the popup. A green dot next to *azure ready* means you're operational.

### 3. Optional — local LLM (so nothing leaves your machine)

## What counts as habad

Ten patterns. A post hitting three or more is habad — even if it also names a real concept.

The full taxonomy, decision rules, and three-shot calibration live in `backend/server.js` as `CLASSIFICATION_TAXONOMY`. Two decision rules carry most of the load:

- **Rhetorical density rule.** A post hitting 3+ HYPE patterns is HYPE ≥0.85 even if it also makes one accurate technical observation.
- **Manifesto-with-real-reference rule.** Naming a real concept (Innovator's Dilemma, a real paper) does not redeem a post built on patterns 1, 2, 5, 7, and 9. The named reference is a fig leaf, not a citation.

## The seal

Issued by:

The seal identifies. It does not silence. *Show anyway* always works. The point is informed scrolling, not censorship.

## Privacy

- Rule layer runs in your browser's service worker. Never leaves the browser.
- Backend binds to **127.0.0.1 only.** No external interface, no port forwarding.
- Ollama runs on your machine.
- Azure OpenAI is the only network call — and only fires when both rule layer and Ollama are uncertain.

No analytics. No telemetry. The Supreme Authority does not collect data.

Sensitivity (popup or options page):
- **Strict** — catches more, accepts more false positives
- **Balanced** — sane default
- **Lenient** — only the obvious habad

## FAQ

**Will my LinkedIn account get banned?**
No. Habbido never modifies the underlying post. It paints a local overlay on your DOM. LinkedIn's servers see nothing.

**Why not just unfollow these people?**
Some of them are clients. Some are family. The seal is more diplomatic than unfollowing.

**Why is the seal in Arabic?**
Because the joke is in Arabic. The Supreme Authority of Habad does not translate.

**Why doesn't it just hide the post entirely?**
Because sometimes habad wraps a real argument. *Show anyway* is the whole feature.

**The backend logs say "Azure deployment does not support json_schema". Is something broken?**
No. Your `gpt-4o` deployment is on a snapshot older than `2024-08-06`. Habbido auto-falls-back to `json_object` mode. Update the deployment when convenient.

**Can I add my own patterns?**
Yes. Edit `src/rules.js` (regex layer) or extend `CLASSIFICATION_TAXONOMY` in `backend/server.js`. Both are designed to be tuned.

**Does it work on Twitter / X / Threads / Bluesky?**
Not yet. Different DOM, different vocabulary, different cultural register. PRs welcome.
