# Pentest-Service-Enumeration

## Purpose
Quick-reference pentest commands organized by service, plus AI/LLM endpoint fingerprinting and interaction from the terminal.

## Background
While studying for the OSCP and OSWA certifications I found it hard to keep track of which commands to run during enumeration for specific services (and how to run them). After transitioning to a fulltime pentester role the problem just got worse. More services, more tools, more flags to remember.

PSE started as a way to keep track of those commands. When AI-powered services started showing up on pentests, I added fingerprinting and chat capabilities so you can discover, identify, and interact with LLM endpoints without leaving the terminal.  This is also helpful if you are studying for the OSAI certification.

To view basic usage just type:

## Open WebUI Chat (MCP Tool Exploitation)

When `pse chat` detects an Open WebUI instance, it automatically handles
authentication and MCP tool execution — letting you interact with tool-enabled
LLMs from the terminal without a browser.

### Model & Tool Discovery

When connecting with `--creds`, PSE automatically discovers available models
and tools. The first available model is selected unless overridden with `--model`:

`pse fp` also enumerates models when it detects Ollama or Open WebUI endpoints
during fingerprinting — visible in the per-port output without needing credentials.
To override the auto-selected model, pass `--model <id>` (use the exact ID shown
in discovery output or the model name from Ollama).

### Tool Execution Modes

| Mode | Flag | Behavior |
|------|------|----------|
| Native (default) | (none) | Tools specs passed to LLM; tool_calls returned to client. Tools are NOT executed server-side. |
| Legacy FC | `--legacy-fc` | Server makes a second LLM call to determine params, then executes the tool inline before responding. **Required for MCP tool exploitation.** |

**When to use `--legacy-fc`:** Any time you need the MCP tool server to actually
execute your payload (command injection, SSTI triggering, data exfiltration via
tools). Without it, the tool is never called — the LLM just says what it
*would* do.

### Playbook Mode

Playbooks script multi-step attack chains as YAML:

Variable overrides (`--var`) let you reuse playbooks across different targets
without editing the YAML.

### Features

- Auto-detects Open WebUI (no extra flags needed beyond `--creds`)
- MCP tool execution in two modes: native (observe) and legacy FC (exploit)
- HIT detection + credential extraction on tool results
- Full curl logging for report reproduction
- Playbook mode for scripted multi-step attacks (SSTI, command injection)
- Variable overrides (`--var key=value`) for portable playbooks

Shipped playbooks (`ai/data/playbooks/`):
- `ssti-revshell.yaml` — SSTI via template rendering → reverse shell (19 steps)
- `cmdi-logs.yaml` — Command injection via Log Analysis tools (6 steps)
- `over-permission.yaml` — DB/filesystem over-permission enumeration (8 steps)

All interactions logged to `~/pentest/lab/<ip>/chat/` (same as regular `pse chat`).

# Adding commands for a service

## File Structure
Services are text files located at:

$HOME/.pse/<files>
```
Every command you want to return should be on a separate line in the format:

## CREATING A NEW SERVICE
You can now use the built-in create functionality:

# AI Fingerprint

Scan a target for AI/LLM services. Finds open ports, probes HTTP endpoints for AI indicators, identifies models, discovers tools, and writes a report.

**Two-phase port scan:**
1. **Phase 1 (fast discovery, ~15s):** SYN scan all 65535 TCP ports with `--min-rate 1000` — finds every open port
2. **Phase 2 (service detection, background ~60s):** `-sV -sC` targeted at discovered ports only — gets service names, versions, hostnames, SMB signing, SSL certs via NSE scripts. Runs in parallel with HTTP endpoint probing

PSE identifies the underlying LLM family using a multi-technique fingerprinting battery (6 techniques, consistency-voted):

**Techniques (Module 2 — Active Reconnaissance):**

1. **Direct Identity Probing** — injection banners, direct questions, multilingual probes (Chinese/Japanese leak through guardrails)
2. **Contradiction Testing** — false attribution ("Thanks Meta!") triggers correction from honest models
3. **Knowledge Cutoff Testing** — asks about recent model releases (GPT-4o, Llama 3.2, Claude 3, Qwen 2.5) to establish training data boundary
4. **Behavioral Analysis** — sycophancy test (math pushback) and code style analysis (docstring presence)
5. **Consistency Voting** — 3 runs per probe, requires 2/3 agreement to filter hallucination from small models
6. **Structural Tell Engine (v7)** — sends 4 formatting probes (bullets, code, refusal, choice) and measures em-dash rate across all responses. Rule-based scoring from empirically validated tells (N=30 personas × 3 families, arXiv:2603.27006)

# Session Isolation

Each terminal gets independent session state. Two terminals can probe the same endpoint with different strategies without stepping on each other.

Under the hood, state lives at `~/.pse/sessions/<ppid>/state.json` (one per terminal). Format detection cache is shared globally at `~/.pse/formats.json` so expensive format probing only happens once.

Send the same query with multiple output-encoding instructions simultaneously, auto-decode all responses, and find consensus (the value most techniques agree on).

## How It Works

1. PSE loads techniques from `ai/data/techniques/default.json` + private plugins at `~/.pse/techniques/*.json`
2. Each technique appends a different encoding instruction to your query (e.g., "output as hex codes", "spell in NATO phonetic alphabet")
3. Requests fire concurrently with AIMD adaptive concurrency (starts at 2 workers, scales up on success, backs off on refusals)
4. Each response is decoded using the matching decoder
5. Results compared via fuzzy consensus — the value that 3+ decoded responses agree on (≥85% similarity) wins

## Adaptive Concurrency (AIMD)

PSE adapts to endpoint behavior automatically:

- **Start:** 2 concurrent workers (conservative)
- **Additive increase:** +1 worker per successful batch window
- **Multiplicative decrease:** ÷2 workers + 0.5s delay on refusal rate >50%
- **Max:** configurable with `--workers N` (default 8)

This handles endpoints that become defensive under parallel load without requiring manual tuning.

# Code Review Exploitation (`pse review`)

Exploit AI code review agents by uploading Python files that trigger import resolution. The agent reads imported project files (e.g., `config.py`) via its `file_read` tool and reports hardcoded secrets in its security review output. Zero injection phrases needed — just normal Python code.

## How It Works

The content scanner checks submitted code for injection phrases ("ignore", "instead output", "override"). Normal Python imports pass because they contain no injection strings.

The agent's code review workflow resolves `from config import Config` by reading `config.py` via its `file_read` tool, then flags hardcoded secrets as security vulnerabilities — including the actual values in the report. The attacker exploits the agent's intended behavior, not its instruction-following.

### Plugin Requirements

1. **File name** must match the `decoder` field in your technique JSON
2. **Must define** `def decode(text: str) -> str` at module level
3. **Return the decoded plaintext** or the original text if decoding fails
4. **Return empty string** if a refusal is detected (prevents false positives in consensus)
5. **No external dependencies** — stdlib only (the plugin runs in PSE's process)

## Decoder Tips

- **Strip preambles:** LLMs wrap encoded answers in prose ("Sure! Here it is: ..."). Take `text.strip().split("\n")[0]` to grab the first line.
- **Handle partial encoding:** LLMs sometimes encode only part of the answer. Be forgiving in parsing.
- **Refusal detection:** If the decoded output contains common refusal phrases ("I cannot", "not allowed"), return empty string — don't let it pollute consensus.
- **Test with real passwords:** Passwords have mixed case, numbers, underscores, special chars. Test your decoder with strings like `P@ssw0rd_2024!` and `x7Qm!9_Rz#vL`.

# Indirect Injection (`pse inject`)

Test AI agents that browse web pages for indirect prompt injection vulnerabilities. The tool hosts HTML pages with visually concealed payloads, directs the agent to browse them, and captures the response.

## How It Works

1. Your payload is rendered into 6 HTML templates using different visual concealment techniques (CSS off-screen, font-size:0, aria-hidden, HTML comments, semantic distraction, white-on-white)
2. A local HTTP server hosts the rendered pages
3. The target agent is told to browse each page (via its `/browse` endpoint)
4. The agent reads the page — the concealed payload is invisible to a human reader but processed by the LLM
5. If the injection succeeds, the agent follows the payload instructions in its response

# RAG Retrieval Hijacking (`pse rag`)

Full pipeline for exploiting RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) endpoints. Upload a
poison document containing hidden instructions, trigger ingestion, and query the RAG
system so your poison doc is retrieved and the LLM executes your instruction instead
of answering the user's question.

Three attack modes:
- **Hijack** — inject an arbitrary instruction via poison document upload
- **Targeted** — extract specific file lines using grep-based surgical payloads
- **ZWS** — bypass input keyword filters using zero-width space encoding

## How It Works (Hijack Mode)

1. **Generate** a poison document with a unique GUID topic key and your embedded instruction
2. **Upload** the document to the RAG endpoint (`/upload`)
3. **Ingest** triggers the vector embedding pipeline (`/ingest`)
4. **Wait** for embedding to complete (configurable sleep)
5. **Query** with a trigger phrase that matches the GUID topic — the RAG system retrieves your poison doc
6. **Decode** the response using the specified output encoding (bypasses output filters)
7. **Verify** the decoded answer is authentic (not hallucinated)

If the first attempt fails, auto-escalation tries different encoding×framing combinations
until one works or max attempts is reached.

## Auto-Escalation

PSE automatically rotates through encoding and framing strategies based on failure type:

## ZWS Input Filter Bypass

When the RAG knowledge base already contains what you need but the input filter
blocks your keywords:

Zero-width spaces (U+200B) between each character prevent substring matching
(`"password"` → `"p\u200ba\u200bs\u200bs..."`) but LLM tokenizers strip them

## `--msg-file`

Reads the chat message from a file instead of the command line. Solves shell
quoting issues with payloads containing `{{ }}`, `$()`, backticks, or nested
quotes.

# Interaction Log (`pse log`)

AI agents use internal tools (file_read, db_query, web_search, etc.) that return
raw data to the LLM. The LLM then sanitizes its response — often omitting secrets.
PSE captures every interaction and shows what the AI **hid** from you.
