## 소개

이 패키지는 **OCR 엔진**인 `libtesseract`와 **명령어 줄 프로그램**인 `tesseract`를 포함하고 있습니다.

Tesseract 4는 줄 인식에 중점을 둔 새로운 신경망(LSTM) 기반 [OCR 엔진](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optical_character_recognition)을 추가했으며, 문자 패턴을 인식하는 방식으로 동작하는 Tesseract 3의 레거시 Tesseract OCR 엔진도 여전히 지원합니다. Tesseract 3와의 호환성은 레거시 OCR 엔진 모드(--oem 0)를 사용하여 활성화할 수 있습니다.
또한 [tessdata](https://github.com/tesseract-ocr/tessdata) 저장소의 파일들과 같이 레거시 엔진을 지원하는 [traineddata](https://tesseract-ocr.github.io/tessdoc/Data-Files.html) 파일도 필요합니다.

## 간략한 역사

Tesseract는 원래 1985년부터 1994년 사이 영국 브리스톨의 휴렛팩커드 연구소(Hewlett-Packard Laboratories Bristol UK)와 미국 콜로라도 그리들리의 휴렛팩커드(Hewlett-Packard Co, Greeley Colorado USA)에서 개발되었으며, 1996년 Windows 이 포팅 및 1998년 C++ 코드로의 전환 등의 추가 변경이 있었습니다. 2005년 HP에 의해 오픈소스화되었습니다. 2006년부터 2017년 8월까지는 Google에서 개발했습니다.

메이저 버전 5는 현재의 안정 버전이며, 2021년 11월 30일 [5.0.0](https://github.com/tesseract-ocr/tesseract/releases/tag/5.0.0) 릴리스로 시작되었습니다. 최신 마이너 버전 및 버그 수정 버전은 [GitHub](https://github.com/tesseract-ocr/tesseract/releases/)에서 확인할 수 있습니다.
