## Overview

HAEVN is a Chrome Manifest V3 extension that syncs AI conversations from multiple LLM platforms into a unified local archive. It preserves the full context of your interactions—including branching conversations, multi-modal content, and metadata—using a canonical `HAEVN.Chat` format.

- **Category filtering**: Browse your archive by topic using the Category dropdown
- **Queue management**: Background processing with live status, retry on failure, and a Rebuild All option
- **Manual overrides**: Edit metadata per-chat from the UI or via `haevn info` in the CLI

## Installation

### From Release (Recommended for Users)

1. **Download the latest release**
   - Go to [Releases](https://github.com/aiamblichus/haevn/releases/latest)
   - Download `haevn-extension-vX.Y.Z.zip`

2. **Unzip the file**

   unzip haevn-extension-vX.Y.Z.zip -d haevn-extension
   ```

3. **Load in Chrome**
   - Open `chrome://extensions/`
   - Enable "Developer mode" (top right)
   - Click "Load unpacked"
   - Select the extracted folder

### From Source (Development)

1. **Clone the repository**

   git clone https://github.com/aiamblichus/haevn.git
   cd haevn
   ```

2. **Install dependencies**

   pnpm install
   ```

3. **Build the extension**

```bash
   pnpm run build
   ```

4. **Load in Chrome**
   - Open `chrome://extensions/`
   - Enable "Developer mode" (top right)
   - Click "Load unpacked"
   - Select the `dist/` folder

### Development Workflow

## Usage

### Quick Start

1. **Navigate to a supported AI platform** (e.g., chatgpt.com, claude.ai)
2. **Click the HAEVN extension icon** in your toolbar
3. **Click "Sync Current Chat"** to save the conversation
4. **Open the Archive** (Options page) to view, search, and manage your saved chats

### Bulk Sync

1. Open the HAEVN Options page (right-click extension icon → Options)
2. Navigate to the "Providers" tab
3. Click "Bulk Sync" next to any platform
4. Watch the progress as your entire history is synced
5. If interrupted, you'll be prompted to resume

### Search

1. Open the Archive (Options page)
2. Use the search bar at the top
3. Results stream in real-time as you type
4. Click any result to open the full conversation in the viewer

### Export

1. In the Archive, select chats using checkboxes
2. Click "Export Selected"
3. Choose format (JSON, Markdown, TXT)
4. Download begins automatically as a ZIP file

### HAEVN CLI

HAEVN also includes a terminal CLI for fast retrieval and scripting.

CLI highlights:
- **Short message refs** (12-char hash) for readable message addressing.
- **Branch-aware listing** (`msgs`, `br`, and branched chat indicator).
- **Context control** in search (`--context`).
- **Safer payloads** for `get` by default (media omitted unless explicitly requested).
- **Metadata management** via `haevn info` — view, edit, or AI-generate metadata per chat.

## Architecture

HAEVN uses a three-tier architecture to work within Chrome MV3 constraints:

### Canonical Format

All conversations are normalized to the `HAEVN.Chat` format, which supports:

- **Tree structure**: Branching conversations with parent/child relationships
- **Multi-modal content**: Text, images, audio, video, documents
- **Rich metadata**: Timestamps, model info, token usage, sync status
- **Extensibility**: Vendor-specific details preserved

### Debug Portal

Open the Options page and use the browser console to access `haevnDebug`:

   - `model.ts` - Platform-specific types
   - `provider.ts` - Provider registration
2. Register in `src/background/init.ts`
3. Add host permissions in `manifest.json`
4. Add platform icon in `src/icons/`
