# Subtitle Generator 🎬

A robust Java-based CLI application that automates video transcription and translation using Google's **Chirp 2** model. It converts video audio into professionally formatted, granular SRT subtitles.

## ⚠️ Important Notice: Security & Costs
* **Credentials Security:** NEVER commit your `config.properties` or Google JSON key to GitHub. These files are listed in the `.gitignore` for your protection. 
* **GCP Billing:** This application uses paid Google Cloud services. Monitoring your usage at the [GCP Console](https://console.cloud.google.com) is highly recommended.
* **FFmpeg Dependency:** This tool requires **FFmpeg** to be installed on your local system to handle audio extraction.

## 🚀 How to Run

### 1. Prerequisites
* **Java 11** or higher.
* **Maven** for dependency management.
* **FFmpeg** (Verify installation by running `ffmpeg -version` in your terminal).

### 2. Setup Configuration
Create a file named `src/main/resources/config.properties`. This file is ignored by Git, so you must create it manually based on the following template:

```properties
# Local and Output Paths
video.path=/Users/username/movies/movie.mp4
audio.temp.path=temp_audio.wav
output.srt.path=final_subtitles.srt

# Google Cloud Configuration
google.project.id=your-gcp-project-id

```

### 3. Execution Commands
Run these commands in your project's root directory:
* **Step 1: Build the project and install dependencies.**
```mvn clean install```
* **Step 2: Run the application.**
```mvn exec:java -Dexec.mainClass="com.cppc.subtitlegenerator.VideoSubtitlerV2"```
