**BoltzFormer** is designed for text promptable segmentation, with superior performance for small objects. It performs Boltzmann sampling within the attention mechanism in the transformer, allowing the model to efficiently focus on relevant regions to attend to. BoltzFormer employs an annealing process through the layers to let the model explore then exploit, mimicking a reinforcement learning process within the transformer itself.

Boltzmann attention sampling estimates a probability distribution on the image at every layer, and subsamples a small portion of patches to attend to. The model learns to make better "guesses" through the layers, and gradually focus on the region of interest.

## Installation
```sh

```

### Conda Environment Setup
```sh
conda create -n boltzformer python=3.10.14
conda activate boltzformer
```

Install dependencies
```sh
pip install -r assets/requirements.txt
pip install git+https://github.com/facebookresearch/detectron2.git
```

### Use Pretrained Backbones
Initializing the model with image backbone pretrained in [SEEM](https://github.com/UX-Decoder/Segment-Everything-Everywhere-All-At-Once) or [SAM2](https://github.com/facebookresearch/sam2) can significantly speed up the training. The model weights can be downloaded as follows:

## Example Usage
We provide the basic model forward pass usage below. We will release the associated training and evaluation framework soon.
